Can You Digsby It?

There are so many kinds of Instant Messaging that it’s sometimes hard to keep track of all of them; AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, and Facebook chat, just to name a few. There have been many second-party IM programs that try to fit all of them into one convenient software. Some, like Trillian and Pidgin, have nearly succeeded with combining many of the first-party IM programs, but still have a kink or two to work out in them. However, one second-party IM program seems to stand on top of the mountain: Digsby.

Released in February 2008, Digsby is set so you can chat with your AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, Facebook, GoogleTalk, ICQ and Jabber friends all in one place. You can even check all your email and update your Twitter, Facebook and MySpace on it, as well as keep in touch with your business associates on LinkedIn. Plus you can send and receive files from almost all of your IM friends. (The AIM one still needs to be tinkered with a bit as of this writing, but AIM hasn’t been that good to begin with when it comes to sending/receiving files.)

For now, only Windows users are able to use Digsby, but Mac and Linux users will be glad to know that they are working on a Digsby for them to fully enjoy. Go to www.digsby.com, and click Download to get the software (for Windows users) or to sign up for email updates (for Mac & Linux clients).

Also, is it me or does Digsby’s mascot look like a legless Homestar Runner?
