Mafia Wars is a time based web browser game using experience points gathered from jobs you do, money, as well as properties and inventory, and growing your own mafia as strong as you can.

A common misconception is people think of mafia's as groups or teams. That's incorrect. Every person is their own mafia, and members of your mafia are members of all of the mafia's they belong to.
You can attack other mafia's, but the only person who takes any damage, or receives any rewards, is the leader (with the exception of bonus cash given by your own mafia members in a fight)
Mafia Wars works most effectively if you invite a lot of people to your mafia, but it's not required.
