Game consoles from the past have a tendency to turn yellow over time. Previously, this has been thought to be unavoidable without repainting the console.
A group of chemists from Europe, and now America have come up with an experimental fix to the problem. By applying a coating of Retr0brite and using UV rays, the color can be restored to new condition within 6-8 hours of application.
The main chemical used is hydrogen peroxide, but requires a catalyst known as tetra acetyl ethylene diamine, present in Oxy! laundry additives. By mixing Oxy! and hydrogen peroxide, you get a liquid that you can dip plastics in. By adding Xantham Gum, you can create a gel which can be applied without soaking plastics.
The chemical reactions present here are largely untested, and although they produce dramatic results, it's currently unknown if there's any health risks going on here.
